I love travelling, who doesn't ? I've been travelling since I was young with my family, even just a short drive to visit relatives in neighboring town. The longest bus ride I remember was from Vigan Ilocos Sur to Manila, its 7 hours journey. As I grew older been travelling with my friends. Those journeys with families and friends the laughter's and jokes shared are treasured memories. Just recently I discovered Solo Travelling, the thought at first gives me doubts if I do try it or not, I was totally sceptical about it.
One day I was browsing the net looking for inspirations to do for my birthday week. I came across a blog about Solo travelling after reading the blog, it totally inspired me. A day or two later I was booking myself for a one week getaway to Belgium on my own. I was nervous to click the button to buy the ticket, I took a deep breath and I click it anyway, after that I felt I surge of excitement, I was searching for accommodations, things to do-see, and day trips. That was it I was beaten by the Travel Bug as they say.
Before I kept on telling to myself I want to see the World, I have travelled with friends to Italy, Paris , Amsterdam, Singapore, Barcelona, Canada, Hongkong, Switzerland, and Prague.
This time Travelling Solo is completely different I came out in my bubble wrapped cocoon, feeling vulnerable at first. Wandering to a new place on my own, equip with online research, bloggers advise about the place and my camera, I'm determined to start my wonderful journey. I wasn't disappointed to myself, the feeling of freedom to wander and savour the beauty of a new place, their culture , to taste their famous delicacies and food, mingling with the local and with other travellers, exchanging ideas, interest and future travel plans.
My reason to travel is not to getaway with my daily routine or run away from people in my life, but finding out what the Universe has got to offer in the other side of the sphere.I'm not halfway there yet but I'm getting there, with a Travelling Buddy or Solo Travelling I am determined I'll get there one day .....
What about you, what's your reason to travel? Are you running away from your past or you current life situation ? You'll never find true happiness if you keep running away, don't be a coward face it and be brave.

Travel feeds me inspiration and light more than anything else. Like everyone else in this world, my life has had its share of ups and downs. Travel has been the one constant in my life and has provided me with healing, self discovery, independence, and cultural awareness and appreciation.
ReplyDeleteI agree with self discovery, I didn't know that I'm confident outside my comfort zone not until I did my solo travel, cultural awareness it good to see and experience other people cultures & belief and appreciate our individuality ...... :)
DeleteNice post! I have really done any solo travel. We are traveling to see the world and learn about different ways of life, cultures, foods and people!
ReplyDeleteI'm a foodist myself I love trying different cuisine when I'm away and taking it back home to practice my culinary skills
DeleteTravel is just so thrilling for me. Every day is different and forces us out of our comfort zone. I love the exposure to alternate ways of living and photo opportunities (my favorite hobby).
ReplyDeleteI love photography too behind or in front of the camera ... Old building- Gothic Baroque Neoclassical Renaissance you name it .... fascinates me a lot, and landscapes seascapes .. I'll spend all day clicking away my camera
DeleteIt's a long time since I travelled alone but I remember how exciting it was (although scary as well!). It's a great way to meet new people and you get a real sense of freedom and satisfaction that you managed to do it on your own.
ReplyDeleteThat's the advantage of travelling Solo meeting other travellers with same interest as yours .... Exchanging tips ideas and recommendation to future travels
DeleteGreat post. A couple of years ago I traveled solo. I made a road trip from Atlanta to New Orleans and other places. It was a great time and an experience I don´t want to miss. Nowadays I travel with my boyfriend and it´s great too because we want to see the same places.
ReplyDeleteIts great travelling solo but its also good if travelling with somebody to share the experience.... its good you found your travelling buddy.... Happy travels to both of you..
DeleteI have never actually traveled alone, but I would love to. I have to find a way to get rid of my husband for a little bit... just kidding, I would love to try the experience though.
ReplyDeleteIf you can't travel solo ... Just continue travelling together with your husband :) Great experience is Best when shared with Love ones as they say.....
DeleteNice post :) I've never really travelled solo myself as I'm a bit of a wuss, luckily my boyfriend and I both love to travel so we do it all together. I travel not to run away but to run to... there's so much world out there and I just have an overwhelming urge to see it all!
ReplyDeleteYeah the world has got much to offer, places to see SNF explore... I started my little steps towards traversing the world .. As you said its overwhelming urge to she it all... I find travelling addictive :)
DeleteTravelling solo isn't about running away from anything, it isn't about escaping from a situation, it is about travelling. That's it. Plain and simple. I have been backpacking for over 10 years now and the absolute majority of that has been solo, it is quite simply the best way to travel.
ReplyDeleteHmmm its good thing its not on CAPITAL LETTERS or else looks like your shouting at me .....
DeleteWe travel with different reason .......
Its like a statement of being a tourist and being a traveller ..What are YOU?
It's just a way to be independent for me...And I'am actually never alone when I travel by myself...You meet so many people and sometimes you end up travelling with some of them for months
ReplyDeleteYeah that's the good thing about Solo travelling your more open to meet up with other travellers along the way.... It may be a short time spent with them or maybe end up planning your travels together ....:)
DeleteI love the excitement of when you click that button to confirm a trip or flight ;)
ReplyDeleteYes it gives you surge of excitement .....
DeleteSimple curiosity about the world around me. I've always had it, and think that I probably always will.
ReplyDeleteI agree our innate curiosity gives me the courage to explore the world... :)
DeleteWow you're so brave! We travel to see more of each other and the world :)
ReplyDeleteIts cool to travel Solo. You should try :)
DeleteI used to travel alone and loved it, although by times it was scary and lonely. I must admit: traveling with others (boyfriend of friends) is more relaxed, and I like it that I can share special moments & places. But, if for some reason I had to travel solo, I would go without thinking twice about it, I just need to travel.
ReplyDeleteExactly different experience travelling alone and with company- you feel more secure when travelling with others , than solo travelling which you feel more vulnerable.
DeleteHaving said that I both love traveling solo and with company :)
I feel the same that travel is not running away or placing distance. For me it's about getting closer to the rest of the world. A new place is an opportunity to explore distinct cuisines, faces and cultural practices.
ReplyDeleteIts liberating wandering and exploring new places... Trying new cuisine and learning different cultures ...
DeleteAs a traveling couple we have both experienced many solo trips beforehand and it's a great experience to have. We really learned a lot from throwing ourselves into the deep end and just lending ourselves to chance and whatever the universe threw at us. Great reflection.
ReplyDeleteI began traveling solo only because I couldn't fine travel partners who were as active as me and loved eating the local food. (I swear if someone wants to eat KFC or McChicken or Starbucks in a new country, they're out of my travel companion list for life!!). I found my peace :)
ReplyDeleteSame sentiment...... I'm not a fast food lover Myself .....when I travel I love to try the local & exotic food that hasn't cross my mind eating on regular basis .......
DeleteTraveling for your chosen reasons is the best way to travel. It just seems that if someone travels to escape from life, well, life will eventually catch up :D I personally travel because I love writing books, and there's no better way to do that than on the road, with all the experiences around you peppering the pages.
