Crazy Road trip to Jurassic Coast

The adventure was originally planned for wildcamping in Surrey with Alpaca trail, unfortunately it requires 3 days off and I only got 2 days so we just randomly decided for a road trip to Dorset, I wanted to see the Durdle door so I suggested it. Me and Kassie agreed to meet up  halfway in Dorchester because she took the train. I went to picked her up in the South station its about 7pm, but the day was still nice for a roadtrip. We drove straight to Durdle door its only 15 minutes drive from the station. We reached Lulworth in no time, it was a trek getting down to the base of Durdle Door with the hills rugged rocks and some loss stones if you're not careful one little mistake on your steps you'll gonna fall, good footwear is suggested when visiting the area. At last we reached the base and the view is so rewarding. We sat there and  watched the waves comes in, the smell of seasalt in the air, the wave sounds is so calming,  there are people swimming too but we didn't have the courage to do so the water is way too cold. The Sunset scene complete the relaxing afternoon.

Durdle Door is a World Heritage Site

After a couple of hours we head off to Weymouth, strolled along the promenade and we stumble into a chinese restaurant and we had dinner there. It's late and still no were to sleep, Kassie change her mind about wild camping so we walked along the rows of Bnb's and Hotels but there's no vacancies, we also checked hotels online but they are all full. So we drove off towards Dorchester unfortunately no hotels, its almost 1am so we didn't have any choice but to sleep in car, we found a quiet village to parked just outside Dorchester City Centre and we have a couple of hours snooze. About 5:30am we set off see the Sunset, driving towards Wareham, I saw a castle on top of the hill and parked my car, I woke up Kassie and we went to see the castle. We then found out its the Corfe Castle fortification is located on the Purbeck Hill, on the route through  Swanage and Wareham. It was built by William the Conqueror during the 11th century, also considered as one of the earliest castle , in England built in stone. It is now a grade 1 listed building under the management of the National Trust.

After a short trek to the castle we continued to drive towards Swanage and along the promenade there's an open cafe bar serving breakfast, we didn't waste anytime we had a full English breakfast and it was yummy complete it with good coastal view its just perfect.

We then head off to Wareham and we stopped at the Blue pool and Wareham bears. Its a very tranquil place, the Blue pool/ lagoon is sourounded by tall trees. There the different colour coded treks the blue and red which involves more of kids,by the gate a kit is given and instructions to follow the alphabet during the trek that leads to the wareham bears. This place is nice for picnics or just for walking. We also passed by a white horse on the hill, which is known as the White Horse of Osmington

It's almost lunch time so we then decided to have lunch at the Portland Marina.

After lunch my eyes felt so tired so we headback to Lulworth and stopped at Man Of War Cove to laze around there, actually I had a nap. A quick nap helped me to recharge ready to drove back home.

Even though theres a misshaps ended us sleeping in the car, that didn't stop us enjoying ourselves.  What a random crazy amazing road trip experience. Have you ever been to a random roadtrip? What is it like? Any misshaps? Did you enjoy the journey?

  4. Well sleeping in the car beats sleeping in a park bench... lol Happened to me once, no hotels available either and I had to sleep (more like dozing off) grabbing my backpack in a park bench. Great pics!

  13. You are such an awesome photographer, I love looking at your photos. The one of the rock pathway into the harbor is spectacular. I love taking random road trips as well. My favorite story is when I decided to go to lunch in Vancouver, Canada when I was living in Seattle, Washington (USA). I had to cross the border and getting into Canada was a breeze. Getting back into the US a few hours later after eating was a NIGHTMARE! Haha! The border patrol decided I was suspicious. Long story short, after 2 hours of waiting, the only suspicious thing they found was an apple. :P Ugh! Worth the beautiful scenery though. Thanks for sharing your fun road trip story!
